Study Shows No Difference between Drug Therapy and Placebo

Women who take fluoxetine drug therapy sometimes self-report a decrease in sexual function, according to scientists. A randomized, controlled study performed by researchers at Lilly Corporation shows that two drugs, amantadine and buspirone, are no better than placebo in treating this type of dysfunction in females.

The study was reported in the American Journal of Psychiatry (D. Michelson et al., "Female dysfunction associated with antidepressant administration: A randomized, placebo controlled study of pharmacologic intervention," Am J of Psychiatry, 2000;157(2):239-243).
