Butterworth and associates included male and female patients undergoing coronary artery surgery in 1995 (n=1,064) and 1997 (n=910) at 51 academic health centers in their study ("Female gender associates with increased duration of intubation and length of stay after coronary artery surgery," Anesthesiology, 2000;92(2):414-424).
