NCI Study Finds Testing Effective when Used with ThinPrep Pap Test

Cytyc Corp., Boxborough, Massachusetts, announced that preliminary results from the on-going U.S. National Cancer Institutes (NCI) ASCUS/LSIL Triage Study (ALTS) suggest that human papillomavirus (HPV) testing may be an effective triage strategy when used in combination with the ThinPrep Pap Test.

The results were presented at the Biennial Meeting of the American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology in Orlando, Florida, during March 2000.

The five-year study, which uses the ThinPrep Pap Test, is sponsored by the NCI. The study is designed to determine an effective strategy to manage patients with borderline or uncertain Pap results. The...
