Study Addresses Nonweight-Related Body Image

A recent study designed to examine the relevance of nonweight-related body image issues among women with eating disorders (ED) concluded that a higher incidence of being displeased with appearance in ED patients was due to "core ego deficits" and not denotative of another disorder. M.A. Gupta and colleagues in Canada came to this conclusion after surveying 53 women with anorexia nervosa and/or bulimia nervosa and 73 healthy women. Each subject was asked to reply with either a "yes" or "no" to indicate whether or not she was satisfied with the way specific parts of her body looked. Participants also filled out the Drive for Thinness (DT) and Body Dissatisfaction (BD)...
