Overweight a Serious Problem in Developing Countries

According to a recent study, obesity among women is a serious issue in Latin America, the Caribbean, the Middle East, North Africa, and the Central Eastern Europe/Commonwealth of Independent States (CCE/CIS) region.

R. Martorell and colleagues from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, launched a study with three objectives:

  • To estimate obesity, defined as weighing {{>=}} 30 kg/m2, in women aged 15-49 from developing countries;

  • To see how obesity fluctuates depending on level of education and living in rural versus urban areas; and

  • To study the relationship between obesity and education or area of residence and how...
