HSV2 Grows Up: Boomer Women Continue To Suffer Physical, Psychological Effects

by N.R. Saltmarsh, staff medical writer - Many women who acquired genital herpes during the first outbreaks are starting to move into their fifties now and medical care must address their unique needs.

"Genital herpes has been described as a sexually transmitted disease involving predominantly younger populations," said J.M. Eder and colleagues. "As women age, medical care must include understanding 'mature' sexuality and the specifics of recurring problems."

They used personal questionnaires and medical records to evaluate 100 women with a history of herpes simplex virus 2 and found that most were still sexually active and had had recent outbreaks....
