Lower-Dose Protects Against Osteoporosis And Alleviates Menopausal Symptoms

For the first time low-dose hormone replacement therapy (HRT) has been proven as effective as the current standard dose in preventing osteoporosis and treating menopausal symptoms in younger menopausal women (ages 45-56) as previously seen in women ages 65 and older.

Researchers at the University of Pisa, Italy found that at the end of two years, bone mass density (BMD) was significantly increased by nearly 3% in the women who took low-dose HRT. BMD actually decreased by 7.9% in the women who took calcium alone. This is relevant because BMD is a predictor for osteoporosis.
