Filgrastim is beneficial after stem cell transplantation

by Michael Greer, senior medical writer - Researchers in Spain say that filgrastim (granulocyte colony-stimulating factor, or G-CSF) treatment can help breast cancer patients recover from hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. "The administration of G-CSF post-transplant has been shown to accelerate the time to neutrophil engraftment," according to Javier Hornedo and colleagues at the "Twelfth of October" University Hospital in Madrid, Santa Cruz and San Pablo Hospital in Barcelona, and Hospital Clinic of Valencia in Valencia.
