Morbidly obese women exhibit impaired triglyceride metabolism

by Maria G. Essig, MS, ELS, senior medical writer - Women who were morbidly obese but had normal lipid levels had abnormal triglyceride metabolism after a high-carbohydrate meal, according to researchers in France.

"The goal of the present study was to compare the plasma lipid responses of massively obese and lean women to a fat load and a carbohydrate load," explained Jean Dallongeville and colleagues at the Institut Pasteur de Lille in France.

The investigators provided 19 women with a high-carbohydrate (3.43 MJ, 166 g carbohydrates, 38 g protein) and a high-fat (3.35 MJ, 70 g fat, 36 g protein) meal in random order (The plasma and lipoprotein...
