Mammography is cost-effective beyond age 65, study finds

According to a cost-effectiveness analysis of data in 10 published studies, mammography screening for breast cancer every 2 years reduces death at reasonable cost for 65- to 80-year-old women who have no serious life-threatening health conditions.

Writing for the Cost Work Group of the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, first author Jeanne Mandelblatt, MD, MPH, of Georgetown University Medical Center, and colleagues reported the findings in the November 18, 2003, issue of the Annals of Internal Medicine.
