An overseas Army assignment allowed orthopedic surgeon Steven Wei, MD, to map the natural history of ACL tears in 60 individuals for an extended period of time between injury and reconstructive surgery.
Because of the circumstances - limited patient access to hospitals, few surgeons, and a long wait for an operating room - Wei was able to observe injuries that may have been repaired quickly in the United States.
