Oklahoma House approves funds for cancer treatment

A bill that would provide $2.5 million to help treat breast and cervical cancer for low-income women was approved April 19, 2004, by the Oklahoma House. Senate Bill 978 directs the Oklahoma Health Care Authority to spend $2.5 million to treat women who have been diagnosed with breast or cervical cancer but do not have health insurance. Although the bill was approved on a 97-0 vote, it sparked debate from House Republicans who criticized the budget process.
