Pregnancy seems to offer women some protection from homicidal abuse

Research from Harvard University shows that for some women in abusive relationships, pregnancy offers a reason to leave their abusers, while for others it reduces their risk for homicide in the relationship - at least while they were pregnant.

M.R. Decker and colleagues examined risk of homicide among 53 abused women who sought prenatal care. Their risk was assessed during pregnancy and in the year before pregnancy using the Danger Assessment Instrument.
