Study shows misunderstanding, misuse of common OTC medication for UTI

Results of a new survey show that many consumers have a poor understanding of the widely-marketed over-the-counter (OTC) drug phenazopyridine (Pyridium; manufactured by Warner Chilcott), a urinary analgesic for the treatment of pain associated with urinary tract infections.

Collaborating researchers from several California institutions suggest this could lead to under-treatment of urinary tract infections (UTIs), especially among people with limited access to care.
