Extended-release ciprofloxacin effectively treats UTI and combats resistance

Extended-release ciprofloxacin (Cipro XR; Bayer) is effective against urinary tract infections and may help combat the spread of antibiotic resistance due to better patient compliance.

"Symptomatic urinary tract infections (UTIs) constitute a major health problem throughout the Western world. In the USA, UTIs are responsible for seven to eight million outpatient visits each year and for over one-third of all hospital-acquired infections," reported D.A. Talan, Olive View UCLA Medical Center, and colleagues in a recent issue of the International Journal of Antimicrobial Agents.
