Report shows HMOs perform above national average

New Yorkers are slightly more satisfied with their health maintenance organizations compared with the national average, but more needs to be done to treat mental illnesses, according to a new report.

The sixth annual report by the New York State Health Accountability Foundation found that on average, the health plans met or exceeded the national average in areas such as prenatal care, cervical cancer testing and customer satisfaction.

But more work is needed in treating depression, according to the researchers. Only 23% of patients on average had multiple follow-up visits in the first 3 months after being diagnosed with depression and only 44% were...
