Bupivacaine + epinephrine treats pain, blood loss in laparoscopic myomectomy

Administering an injection of bupivacaine plus epinephrine during laparoscopic myomectomy reduced blood loss and operation time, and significantly reduced the amount of postoperative pain medication patients used, according to a report from Italy.

Fulvio Zullo, MD, University "Magna Graecia" of Catanzaro, and colleagues conducted a randomized controlled design study in which 60 premenopausal women with uterine leiomyomata and undergoing laparoscopic myomectomy were divided into two groups: one intraoperatively injected with bupivacaine plus epinephrine (group A) and the other injected with saline solution (group B, controls).
