Cervical cancer rates in Vietnam linked to war-time movement of soldiers

Pathologists with the Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in California conducted an interesting epidemiologic study to find out why cervical cancer rates among Vietnamese women in the northern region of their country are lower than women in South Vietnam.

"Decades ago, cervical cancer was the leading form of cancer among women in both North Vietnam and South Vietnam. Currently, cervical cancer rates are considerably lower in the northern region of the country. We performed a case-control study to measure factors associated with the development of cervical cancer among Vietnamese women," explained M.L.D. Huynh and colleagues.
