Despite cheers, breastfeeding bill unlikely to pass this year

Women would be able to breastfeed their children in restaurants, stores and other public places under a bill being promoted by female legislators. The bill was inspired by a federal appeals court ruling last summer that Wal-Mart's refusal to allow women to breastfeed in its stores does not violate an Ohio law that prohibits sex discrimination in public places. At a legislative hearing, audience members openly cheered testimony and female legislators urged passage of the bill even before holding the requisite three hearings.
