More pregnant women learn their HIV status under Botswana's HIV testing policy

New data show that when Botswana adopted a national, routine, prenatal, HIV testing policy, substantially greater numbers of pregnant women learned their infection status. Prenatal clinics in Botswana have offered HIV screening and prevention services since 2001, but low HIV testing rates had hindered the nation's mother-to-child HIV prevention efforts, according to a report in the November 26, 2004, Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR) from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
