Prenatal exposure to undernutrition causes fatty food preference in adult mice

Prenatal exposure to undernutrition causes a preference for fatty foods later in adulthood, a study in mice found. "Nutrient restriction in pregnancy has been shown to program adult obesity. Modulation of feeding behavior may provide a mechanism through which obesity may be programmed," suggested L. Bellinger, University of Nottingham and colleagues. To test this, "pregnant Wistar rats were fed either a control diet or a low-protein (LP) diet throughout gestation.
