Girls with anorexia have lower bone mass than healthy girls

According to a study from Spain, girls with anorexia have lower bone mass than girls who are healthy. The research by a multidisciplinary pediatrics research team was awarded the "Amagoia" prize by the Sociedad Vasco-Navarra de Pediatria. The study was led by Cristina Azcona, Department of Pediatrics at the University Hospital in Navarre, Spain. Patients affected by eating habit disorders are at greater risk from developing osteopenia and osteoporosis compared to the healthy population, mainly due to their state of malnutrition and hypogonadism, the researchers explained.
