Postpartum uterine infection linked to higher HIV-1 seropositivity in Uganda

Study results show that postpartum endometritis-myometritis is associated with higher HIV-1 seropositivity in Ugandan women. Karolinska Institute, Sweden, researchers conducted a case-controlled study of HIV seroprevalence in women with postpartum uterine infection [postpartum endometritis-myometritis (PPEM)] in which each patients was matched with two controls. "All participants were offered HIV pre- and post-test counseling. Personal and clinical information was obtained and HIV-1 enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays performed on blood samples and discordant results resolved by Western blot test," said P.
