Drospirenone + ethinyl estradiol oral contraceptive reduces bone turnover

Study results show that an oral contraceptive containing drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol, taken for 6 months, reduced bone turnover in young women. A.M. Paoletti and colleagues, University of Cagliari, Italy, conducted a clinical study in which 28 healthy, eumenorrheic, young, postadolescent women were given an oral contraceptive (OC) containing drospirenone (3 mg) plus ethinyl estradiol (30 mcg) (DRSP+EE) and a control group of 26 women received no treatment.
