Genital Candida infection in very young girls is cause for investigation

Genital candidiasis in very young children is uncommon, say microbiologists, and isolation of the fungus from the genital tract of very young girls requires investigation of the cause of infection. Researchers at the Diana Princess of Wales Children's Hospital in England conducted a retrospective case-note review of all symptomatic children with a culture result positive for Candida spp. presenting at their facility between May 2000 and July 2001.
