More prenatal care in developing world needed to combat HIV/AIDS

Expanding access to quality prenatal care in the developing world is an important step in helping solve the global HIV/AIDS crisis, according to the American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM), marking World AIDS Day 2004. The theme for 2004 is "Women, Girls, HIV and AIDS," which focuses on how HIV/AIDS has significantly increased among women. According to the U.S. Office of Minority Health, "Women now make up half of all people living with HIV worldwide and 57% of these women live in sub-Saharan Africa.
