Serum PSA concentration is increased in acromegalic women

As a group, women with acromegaly have higher levels of serum prostate-specific antigen (PSA) than women without the endocrine disorder, researchers have shown. Individually, however, the association between acromegaly and PSA levels held true in only 24% of cases. "Prostate-specific antigen is a serine protease produced by prostatic epithelial cells detectable in male serum and seminal plasma. PSA is also expressed in some female tissues and fluids and is increased in hirsute women showing a positive correlation with androgens.
