Folic acid remains public health priority

Folic acid fortification is still an urgent global health priority, says one epidemiologist in an editorial accompanying publication of an article in the December 11, 2004, British Medical Journal (BMJ) that asks if folate supplements in pregnancy increase breast cancer risk. The results, Godfrey P. Oakley Jr., MD, of Emory University, Atlanta, says, are most likely a "statistical fluke."
