Better quality of life reported after sentinel node biopsy

Two studies from the multicenter ALMANAC trial presented at the 27th Annual San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium have reported that sentinel lymph node biopsy results in significantly reduced arm morbidity and improved quality of life for breast cancer patients, compared with standard axillary lymph node dissection. The ALMANAC trial is a large, randomized, multicenter trial in the United Kingdom designed to quantitatively assess the effectiveness and morbidity of sentinel node biopsy in patients with clinically node-negative invasive breast cancer and compare it to standard axillary dissection.
