Assay predicts breast cancer response to tamoxifen and chemotherapy

The Oncotype DX Recurrence Score Assay may predict which breast cancer patients are at risk for distant recurrence and which patients will benefit from tamoxifen or chemotherapy, according to results presented at the 27th Annual San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium by Soonmyung Paik and colleagues from Genomic Health, Inc., in Redwood City, California. Recurrence score measures the expression of 21 genes (16 directly related to cancer development and five included as reference genes), and converts the measurements into a score ranging from 1 to 100.
