Plasma ghrelin and resistin levels suppressed in infants of diabetic mothers

Plasma ghrelin and resistin levels are suppressed in infants of insulin-dependent diabetic mothers, report researchers in Hong Kong. P.C. Ng and colleagues at the Chinese University of Hong Kong Prince of Wales Hospital investigated "1) the effect of maternal diabetes mellitus on ghrelin, resistin, leptin, and insulin in term newborns; 2) the inter-relationship of these metabolic hormones in the early postnatal period; and 3) the association of the hormones with anthropometric parameters at birth."
