The first-ever Folic Acid Awareness Week is recognized January 24-30, 2005. The Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN), as a member of the National Council on Folic Acid (NCFA), supports the launch of Folic Acid Awareness Week. This campaign is an important part of NCFA's plan to increase public awareness of the importance of folic acid in the prevention of birth defects. The National Council on Folic Acid (NCFA) is a partnership of over 80 U.S. organizations and associations, state folic acid councils, and government agencies whose mission is to improve health by promoting the benefits and consumption of folic acid....
