Radiotherapy, susceptibility may increase risk after childhood Hodgkin disease

Not only higher radiation dose, but also specific susceptibility may contribute to the higher risk of breast cancer seen in female survivors of childhood Hodgkin's disease. C. Guibout, of Unite 605 INSERM, Institut Gustave Roussy, France, and a team of researchers "[assessed] the specific role of treatment and type of first cancer (FC) in the risk of long-term subsequent breast cancer (BC) among childhood cancer survivors." They collected chemotherapy and radiotherapy data from "a cohort of 1,814 3-year female survivors treated between 1946 and 1986 in eight French and English centers."
