Researchers call for new approach to clinical trials in postgenomic era

Authors of a recent paper in Current Opinion in Oncology called for researchers to think out of the box and "incorporate new molecular knowledge and translational research in the design of clinical trials" for breast cancer treatments. S. Loi, of the Translational Research Unit, Jules Bordet Institute, Brussels, along with colleagues there and at the International Drug and Development Institute, also in Brussels, wrote, "Clinical trials in breast cancer (BC) have seldom taken into consideration molecular heterogeneity, because most have been performed in unselected populations. Hence, their results provide an estimated average benefit for the entire BC...
