The Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) is part of the Cervical Cancer Education Campaign that sponsors January as Cervical Cancer Screening Month and encourages AWHONN nurses to spread the word that cervical cancer is a treatable cancer. Early detection is critical to treat cervical cancer. * Every year in the United States, about 10,520 women get cervical cancer and about 3,900 women die from it. * 50% of the cervical cancers in the United States occur in women who have never been screened. 60% of these cancers occur in women who have not had a Pap smear within 5 years of the diagnosis. ...
