Extended-release venlafaxine effectively treats hot flushes in healthy postmenopausal women, according to a new study. Michele L. Evans, MD, of the Center for Reproductive Sciences, Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences, University of California, San Francisco, and colleagues randomized "80 postmenopausal women with more than 14 hot flushes per week ...to receive treatment with extended-release venlafaxine or placebo.
