Study: Parental notification laws likely wouldn't stop teen sex

A study from the Alan Guttmacher Institute finds that laws mandating parental notification when teens seek prescription contraception wouldn't discourage many teens from having sex and most likely would result in increased teen pregnancy and incidence of sexually transmitted diseases. Rachel K. Jones, PhD, and colleagues with the Institute in New York City conducted a study in which 1,526 female adolescents younger than 18 years (minors) seeking reproductive health services at 79 U.S. national family planning clinics were surveyed between May 2003 and February 2004.
