Nonprofit wheat organization issues statement on the new dietary guidelines

The Wheat Foods Council supports the new Dietary Guidelines' emphasis on counting calories, not limiting carbohydrates, and exercising daily, a position the Wheat Foods Council has worked to educate Americans on since it was created.

The council also commends the strengthened references to whole grains, including the whole grain serving recommendation, as whole grains are an important source of complex carbohydrates, dietary fiber, antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. Whole grain foods have been linked to protecting people from a number of chronic diseases, including cardiovascular disease, cancer, and diabetes.
