Egg production is predictive of IVF patients' likelihood of pregnancy

The younger an in vitro fertilization (IVF) patient is, the better her chances are of becoming pregnant. But age is not the only consideration. A patient's response to controlled ovarian hyperstimulation (COH), the drug regimen used for IVF to prompt her ovaries to produce more eggs than usual, is also telling, according to a study in the January 2005 issue of Fertility and Sterility. Doctors reviewed 4,862 consecutive fresh, non-donor IVF cycles using COH at the Center for Reproductive Medicine and Infertility at Weill Medical College of Cornell University.
