Antimicrobial susceptibility of uropathogens evaluated in South Korean women

Urologists in Seoul, South Korea, have calculated the prevalence of pathogens causing uncomplicated cystitis among women and their mean susceptibility rates to commonly prescribed drug therapies. S.J. Lee and colleagues, Catholic University, assayed "239 isolates ...from female outpatients with acute uncomplicated cystitis." They found that the prevalent causative organisms were, in order from highest prevalence: Escherichia coli (79.9%), coagulase-negative staphylococci (CNS) (4.2%), and enterobacteria species (8.2%).
