Unemployed women at higher risk for cardiovascular disease

Women who have been fired or laid off from their jobs face not only emotional distress, but also have a higher risk of cardiovascular disease, researchers reported on February 17, 2005, at the Second International Conference on Women, Heart Disease and Stroke. There have been conflicting reports on the relationship of women's health and employment status, according to Sheree Marshall-Williams, PhD, behavioral scientist at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, Georgia.
