Concern over cosmetic injections by unlicensed doctor



March 10th, 2005

At least 16 women have developed serious skin reactions after getting injections for things like wrinkles and cellulite from a man claiming to be a doctor. Trouble is, health officials said he is not licensed in the District of Columbia, Virginia or Maryland, and they expressed concern February 16, 2005, about what might be in the shots.

"At this point there haven't been any deaths, there haven't been any hospitalizations. But certainly because we don't know what the substance is, we can't say how dangerous it is," said Lucy Caldwell, a spokeswoman for the Virginia Department of Health.
