Breast-feeding protects glucose metabolism in young adult women

Independent of body adiposity, breast-feeding has a protective effect on glucose metabolism in young adult women.

"The objective of the present study was to determine if any associations between reproductive experience and anthropometric or sub-clinical metabolic alterations of glucose metabolism exist. Sixty-seven women were recruited from the University of Brasilia Hospital and were evaluated at 12 to 18 months postpartum. Demographic, socio-economic, physical activity, anthropometric and health history (biochemical, reproductive) data were obtained.
