Abortion waiting periods approved by Georgia House

Women seeking abortions in Georgia would get new warnings about the health risks involved, and the procedure would be subject to a 24-hour waiting period, under a bill approved overwhelmingly in the state House February 23, 2005.

The bill, long the top priority of abortion opponents, also tightens parental notification requirements for minors. Parents would have to be notified either by telephone or in person before a minor could have an abortion.
