Study finds amoxicillin-clavulanate regimen less effective than ciprofloxacin

A 3-day regimen of the antibiotic amoxicillin-clavulanate is not as effective as ciprofloxacin at treating an uncomplicated bladder infection in women, according to study results. Acute uncomplicated urinary tract infections (UTIs) are among the most commonly encountered bacterial infections in women, the study authors noted in their paper, published in the February 23, 2005, issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA. 2005;293:949-955).
