Researchers publish new studies and findings in the area of cancer genetics

New findings from the United States and Canada describe advances in cancer genetics.

Study 1: Recent study data provide more evidence that long-term use of oral contraceptives reduces the risk of ovarian cancer among women who carry the BRCA 1 or BRCA 2 gene mutations.

"Women with mutations of the genes BRCA1 or BRCA2 are at increased risk of ovarian cancer. Oral contraceptives protect against ovarian cancer in general, but it is not known whether they protect against the disease in carriers of these mutations," said A.S. Whittemore and colleagues, Stanford University.
