IVF/ICSI safely avoids disease transmission in HIV-1 serodiscordant couples

In vitro fertilization (IVF)/intracytoplasmic sperm injection is a safe method for HIV-1 serodiscordant couples to become pregnant, researchers say. M.C. Chu and colleagues, Columbia University, assessed "treatment efficacy of using IVF-intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) in HIV serodiscordant couples interested in having children while minimizing the risk of viral transmission." They "[reviewed] the cases of HIV serodiscordant couples (n=142) seeking fertility treatment at an assisted reproductive center.
