Researchers report details of new studies and findings in the area of cancer genetics

Cancer genetics data are the focus of recent research from the United States and Italy. Study 1: Stanford University researchers have estimated that over half a million Caucasians in the U.S. carry BRCA1 gene mutations. A.S. Whittemore and colleagues said, "Data from several countries indicate that 1 to 2% of Ashkenazi Jews carry a pathogenic ancestral mutation of the tumor suppressor gene BRCA1.
