Urinary estrogen metabolite ratio may signal higher risk in Asian Americans

The ratio of the urinary estrogen metabolite 2-hydroxyestone (2-OHE1) to that of 16alpha-hydroxyestrone (16alpha-OHE1) may be an indicator of increased breast cancer risk in Asian American women, researchers say. According to scientists at the U.S. National Cancer Institute, "Controversy persists regarding the role of a low ratio of 2-OHE1/16alpha-OHE1 as a potential estrogen metabolism marker of increased risk for breast cancer.
