Positive gene therapy trial results for angina published

Corautus Genetics, Inc., (VEGF) announced the publication of the 2-year follow-up results of Corautus' earlier phase I study of Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor-2 (VEGF-2) in patients with severe angina. In this trial, VEGF-2 in the form of "naked" plasmid DNA (a nonviral delivery vector) was delivered in defined doses by direct injection into the heart muscle. Results of the follow-up study, as reported by the investigators in the current issue of the Journal of Interventional Cardiology (Vol. 18, No. 1, pp. 27-31, 2005), demonstrate prolonged clinical benefit as measured by improvement of patients' angina 2 years following treatment...
